Update 0.1.8
Update 0.1.8
Released: G1R:MP 0.1.8 / BUILD210 / Protocol 40. Download the Windows client and matching Windows/Linux dedicated servers. Update both sides: 0.1.7 / Protocol 39 clients and servers are not compatible with Protocol 40.
Character dimensions
Server-controlled dimensions separate players, scripted human NPCs and monsters on the same map. This supports private character creators, preview characters and isolated character encounters without reconnecting or changing the player's ID.
Six new server-side Lua functions, available since 0.1.8:
- setPlayerDimension / getPlayerDimension
- setNpcDimension / getNpcDimension
- setMonsterDimension / getMonsterDimension
Three new server-local events:
spawnNpc and spawnMonster accept options.dimension to create an actor directly in a private dimension. Existing identity, skin colour, tattoos, equipment and animation APIs continue to apply, with normal appearance/state replay on entry, re-entry and late join.
Character visibility, character-to-character collision/combat, NPC/monster targeting and proximity microphone voice respect dimensions. getPlayersInRange now uses the source player's dimension; bundled GothicRP local chat and trade follow the same separation.
This is character separation, not a fully instanced world. Terrain, doors, gates, torches, world items and map objects remain shared. Global events and custom Lua/TTS audio require explicit recipient selection by the script. Dimension changes do not themselves teleport, freeze or make a character invulnerable. Ordinary streaming distance still applies.
See Character dimensions for complete examples, ownership rules, transition restrictions, cleanup and safe character-creator integration. Existing resources using coordinate-only queries such as getPlayersWithinRange should compare dimensions explicitly when their interactions require nearby characters.
Client fixes
- Corrected RmlUi shadow/layer rendering that could produce a solid white panel in interfaces such as the bundled login window. Existing GUI and image APIs are unchanged.
- Multiplayer world-loading screens now complete automatically after loading is finished, removing the extra "press a key to begin" step on the supported join/Continue path. Actual world loading still completes normally; this does not skip loading or change single-player loading behavior.
Previously released 0.1.7 fixes for dynamic RmlUi content updates and the launcher download progress indicator remain included. They are not new Lua APIs in 0.1.8.
Server packages and upgrading
Windows x64 and Linux x86_64 dedicated servers each have two download variants:
- WITH TTS: includes the portable CPU runtime, dependencies and model data for optional server speech generation.
- WITHOUT TTS: the smaller package, with the same gameplay server and scripting API, without the bundled TTS runtime/models.
TTS remains disabled by default in both variants. Enable and configure it only if your server needs it; see Server TTS, TTS configuration and TTS voices. TTS was introduced in 0.1.7, not in this update.
Back up your server before upgrading. Preserve your own configuration, database credentials, keys, maps, private resource storage, voices and saved recordings. Install the matching executable and updated bundled resources, merging your gamemode changes rather than replacing your private data. Public packages do not contain the developer's private passwords; database access must be configured by the operator.
The optional Map editor and map_scene resources remain available. Keep a separate backup of your single-player saves before using the mod: multiplayer installation/use can overwrite or remove save data.
